Invited, the largest owner and operator of membership clubs, hosted The Crush It! Cup in conjunction with three-time major winner Jordan Spieth. Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas hosted the youth golf tournament and fundraising event, which raised $250,000 for Spieth’s nonprofit, The Jordan Spieth Family Foundation, an organization serving individuals with special needs, junior golf, military families and veterans and pediatric cancer.
Ava Dunger, a 13-year-old from Gig Harbor participated in the event, which attracted 36 top junior golfers from Invited clubs across the country. Dunger earned a spot through participation in a two-month Golf Marathon Fundraiser where she competed to play the most number of holes, celebrating youth golf while fostering a spirit of community and philanthropy.
During the tournament, Dunger played a hole with Spieth on the course where the PGA TOUR member learned the game. She averages a 42-stroke score on nine holes, and Spieth’s caddie, Michael, hails from her hometown. Dunger recently recorded first place finishes in two nine-hole tournaments, and she hopes to play college golf and advance to the LPGA.
PGA Professional Ryan Malby of Kalispel, MT won the Senior PGA Professional Championship by one stroke over PGA Professional Mitch Lowe of Glendoveer Golf Course (Portland, OR). This marks Malby’s second win of the year after capturing the Senior Oregon Open Invitational last month.
In addition to Malby and Lowe, Jeff Gove of The Idaho Club (Sandpoint, ID), Birk Nelson of Orange Whip, David Lebeck of Portland GC (Portland, OR), Christopher Smith of Eugene CC (Eugene, OR) and Brent Murray of Oswego Lake CC (Lake Oswego, OR) all advanced directly to the 36th Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac.
The top finishers at the 36th Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac will earn a berth in the 2025 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, to be held at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
Washington completed play at the Sahalee Players Championship with the Huskies finishing 13th at 41 shots over par at Sahalee Country Club. Freshman Jake Foley continued to lead the way for Washington placing tied for 36th overall for the tournament, carding a 37 on the front nine for a total of three over 75 for the round, six over for the weekend.
Despite an up and down third round for the Dawgs, the Husky lineup managed six birdies on the day, three of which belonged to sophomore Finn Koelle, who ended the round three-over, matching Foley for UW’s low round of the day. Koelle finished the tournament two shots behind Foley at eight-over, tied for 46th.
Aiden Kraft of Oregon won the individual title with a three-round total of 212. Arizona State captured the team championship by 11 shots.
Paul Hogben of Seattle posted consistent rounds of 72-72-72 to claim victory in the 59th Pacific Northwest Senior Men’s Amateur Championship. Meanwhile, Jim Shaw of Sooke, B.C., captured the 14th Super Senior Men’s Amateur title with rounds of 78-76-69.
Both championships took place at Beach Grove Golf Club in Delta, B.C.
Hogben entered the final round one shot behind in the Senior Men’s Amateur and was part of the final group. He started steadily in today’s final round, recording one birdie and one bogey on the front nine. Hogben and third-round leader Mike Kennedy from North Vancouver, B.C. were tied as they made the turn, but Hogben edged ahead by finishing with a 1-over 37 on the back nine. Kennedy finished with a 5-over 41 for the back nine.
Rick Corkill from Vancouver, Wash., claimed victory at the 49th Pacific Northwest Men’s Master-40 Amateur Championship, held at Bar Run Golf & RV Resort in Roseburg, Ore. Corkill secured the title with a 3 & 2 win over Garrett Stephens from Carnation, Wash., in the 18-hole final match.
Entering the match play bracket as the No. 10 seed after the stroke-play qualifying rounds, Corkill’s path to victory included a 2 & 1 win in the round of 32, a 3 & 2 win in the round of 16, a 1 up win in the quarterfinals, and a 21-hole victory in the semifinals.
In the final, both players started strong, matching each other’s scores early on. Stephens briefly took a 1-up lead on the fifth hole, but Corkill responded by winning the sixth and eighth holes.
The team of PGA Professional led by Geoffrey Buchanan of Butte CC with amateurs Coby Lean, Robert Cline and Todd Mohr won the Callaway Golf Challenge at Circling Raven GC.
The team of PGA Professional Carlos Davila Castillo with amateurs Mark Wilkins, Jordan Piscopo, and Jay Garthwaite finished second in the Callaway Golf Challenge.
PGA Professional Carlos Davila Castillo of Manito G&CC won low professional honors. PGA Professional Trevor Hiebing of Sah-Hah-Lee GC placed second.
