On Sunday, a trio of players with a handful of near-misses in this championship staged an epic battle at Waverley Country Club, Portland, Ore., ultimately won by Trish Johnson by one stroke over Leta Lindley and two ahead of Catriona Matthew.
First place price was $180,000.
The 84-year-old Hall of Famer, JoAnne Gunderson Carner, and Kirkland native, affectionately known as Big Mama, stole the show by besting her age by shooting an 80 during the first round. It is the sixth time she has shot her age or better since the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open back in 2018.
