Northwest players qualify for United States Senior Open

Pacific Northwest senior golfers Tom Sovay, Jim McNelis and Rob Gibbons all qualified for the United States Senior Open, which was held at Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Sovay and the amateur McNelis won their spots at a qualifier at Bear Creek Country Club in Woodinville, Wash. against a field of 57. Sovay and McNelis each shot rounds of 72 to earn their tickets to the U.S. Senior Open.

At Tualatin Country Club near Portland, a field of 54 players battled for one spot with Arrowhead’s Gibbons coming out on top after a round of 69. The course was tough as the average score in the field that day for qualifying was 79.
