In today’s world we are more likely to see courses close than open up, but Oregon is bucking the trend and is celebrating the opening of Bar Run Golf Course & RV Resort in Roseburg.

The resort features golf, a modern RV resort with 26-full-amenity RV spaces, and resort cottages located along the first ten holes of the course. The spaces can accommodate all sizes of RVs. Plans are in the works to expand by adding 44 additional spots, as well as a large pool complex complete with a river and poolside gazebos.

The course sits in an attractive broad valley surrounded by treed hills. It is a walkable par 70, with four par fives, six par threes, and eight par fours, designed by Dan Hixson. “It will not be a long course, mainly because of having that many par threes, but there is enough variety to have a really fun playing experience,” said Hixson. “It is scorecard short but has plenty length.

Bar Run is located along the South Umpqua River in Roseburg, Oregon. Course designer Dan Hixson made his mark on the golf scene with Bandon Crossings, a family-owned course just down the road from famed Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. Since then, Hixson has gained acclaim for original designs at Wine Valley (Walla Walla, Washington) and the reversible routing at Silvies Valley Ranch in Eastern Oregon.

“The site (at Bar Run) is very different from any of the new courses I have designed,” said Hixson. “This is a reclamation project of an existing sand-and-gravel quarry. The property was shaped through thousands of years as a floodplain of the South Umpqua River, with deposits of sand and gravel.

It is built on the remnants of a sand and gravel operation that mined the land for round rock and sand and gravel – the process was called “bar run” and is the namesake for the property, paying homage to the geological history and the industry that helped create what it is today.

Bar Run’s golf course is easily accessible to all, with only 20 feet of elevation change between the highest and lowest point.

Also in the plans, are RV resort cottages with large front porches and equipped with modern kitchen appliances.

Bar Run is a slice of heaven, in the heart of the “Land of Umpqua” known for fishing, rafting and outdoor adventures, just 6 miles from downtown Roseburg.

Around a decade ago, the Guido family, headed by Kelly and Mona Guido embarked on revitalizing the land by creating the Bar Run development. The privately owned land has been passed down three generations of the family and was previously utilized as a part of the family Sand and Gravel mining operation.

“For generations, we have been curious of this land’s potential and have loved watching it truly come to life,” said owner Mona Guido.  “We promise a fun, special, and authentic place where everything we have created, from the golf course to the luxury RV Resort, is approachable, built with intention and encourages guests to feel right at home.
