Western Washington golfer goes low to win Riverbend Amateur

Sandy Vaughan, who plays his college golf at Western Washington University, fired a two-round total of 135 to win the 19th annual Riverbend Amateur, one of the largest amateur events in the Pacific Northwest.

Vaughan opened with a 66 but found himself trailing first-round leader Ben Bendickson of Riverbend, who opened with a 63. But Vaughan fired a 3-under-par 69 in the second and final round to win the tournament by one shot over Bendickson, who had a 73 in the second round.

Broc Johnson, who plays at Green River Community College, was third at 138, Kimberly Santiago was fourth at 139, Ira Armad and Sean McMullen tied for fifth at 142 and Dave Farnam finished seventh at 142. A total of 150 players took part in the event.
