Mary Lou Mulflur, who led the Washington women’s golf team to its first national title, was named national coach of the year by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

Mulflur, who just completed her 33rd season at UW, was named national coach of the year in 2015 by Golfweek. That award for this year has not been announced yet.

With a starting five of two seniors and three freshmen, UW was one of eight teams to advance to match play from the 24-team NCAA championship field at Eugene (Ore.) Country Club. Entering match play as the No. 4 seed, the Huskies defeated No. 5 seed Virginia, No. 1 seed UCLA and No. 2 seed Stanford en route to the title.
