Pumpkin Ridge is going after a golf doubleheader for 2017 – hoping to stage both its annual LPGA Safeway Classic and perhaps the following week the Solheim Cup, which is the LPGA’s version of the Ryder Cup.
Pumpkin Ridge has played host to some big-time events through the years, including the United States Women’s Open, the USGA Men’s Amateur and the USGA Junior Boys and Girls Championships. But this golfing doubledip would be a huge score for Pumpkin Ridge, which would host the LPGA Safeway Classic on the public Ghost Creek Course and the Solheim Cup on the private Witch Hollow Course. Both courses were designed by Bob Cupp.
Ghost Creek has hosted the LPGA Safeway Classic for the last four years after moving from Columbia Edgewater Country Club. It is always one of the most well attended events on the LPGA Tour. Pumpkin Ridge officials would like to capture some of the excitement for the Solheim Cup. A decision won’t be made until 2013.
