Pierce County had hoped to break even on the 2015 United States Open, which was held at Chambers Bay. After months of crunching the numbers, Pierce County officials said the event netted $1.1 million for the tournament, which was held in June. And now, Pierce County officials want another crack at hosting the tournament sometime down the road.

“The bottom line is that the 2015 U.S. Open was a great event and we want to see it return,” said County Executive Pat McCarthy.

The tournament has been a boon to play at Chambers Bay. In fact, KemperSports, which runs the course, told the county that it envisioned a profit of over $7 million in revenues for the 2018 golf season.
