Huskies 18th in national poll; Alex Williams named assistant

The Golf World/Nike Golf Division I College Preseason Coaches’ Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World Magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Washington is 18th in the first poll of the year. The Huskies received 141 points, fourth most among Pac-12 schools. UCLA will begin the year ranked No. 1 after receiving 8 of 19 first-place votes and 461 points. Oklahoma State received more first-place votes (9), but tallied only 449 points. USC is ranked 11th, Stanford 12th and California 24th.

Huskies Men’s Golf Coach Matt Thurmond announced that Alex Williams will join his staff as an assistant coach to replace Garrett Clegg, who left his post at UW to become Washington State’s new head coach.
