Darren Black scores at national event

Darren Black of Rainier Golf and Country Club in Seattle was the top finisher for Northwest professionals at the PGA Professional National Championship at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Philadelphia.

Black finished tied for 39th with a 289 total – 10 back of the tournament winner. The top 20 finishers earned playing spots into the PGA Championship.

Chris Griffin of Tacoma Country and Golf Club also made the cut and finished tied for 68th at 295.

Other Northwest players to take part but missed the cut included Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley, Greg Manley of Meridian Valley, Tony Robydek of Pro Golf Tacoma and Casey McCoy of Newaukum.

• A handful of seniors from the Pacific Northwest took part in the U.S. Senior Open at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento.
Kirk Triplett of Pullman finished tied for 57th in the tournament.

Four others missed the cut including Bob Gilder of Corvallis, Peter Jacobsen of Portland, Erik Hansen of Sammamish and Scott Krieger of Portland.
