Many Northwest golf fans head to the Boeing Classic to see Northwest native Fred Couples. It wasn’t to be for Couples this year as he finished tied for 26th.
Instead, Stephen Ames lapped the field in the final round winning by seven shots over Miguel Angel Jiminez. Even further back was Steven Alker who tied for third with K.J. Choi nine shots behind Ames.
Ames shot a final-round 63 and his 19 under par total tied a tournament record set by Jerry Kelly in 2017. Ames closed the tournament with four birdies and an eagle at the 18th hole to finish his day.
Couples did start his final round at 4 under within striking distance. But he had a double bogey on the seventh hole and couldn’t get back within sight of the leaders.
