Benzel captures Oregon Open

Sahalee Country Club professional Ryan Benzel shot a three-round total of 209 to win the Oregon Open Invitational at Brasada Canyons. Benzel was steady throughout the tournament shooting rounds of 69-71-69 to finish at 7-under-par and win the $7,000 first-place check.

The event was close until the final hole when Benzel birdied the 18th hole to win the tournament by two shots over Darren Black of Rainier Golf and Country Club and amateur Justin Kadin of Tetherow. Kadin had been leading the tournament after rounds of 67-69 but faded with a 75 in the third round.

Another amateur Nick Baines of Pumpkin Ridge made the biggest move in the final round shooting a 66 to move into a tie for fourth place with Tony Robydek of Pro Golf Discount in Tacoma at 212.

Tim Feenstra of Broadmoor Golf Club tied for sixth with Rob Gibbons of Arrowhead at 213 while David LeBeck of Astoria Golf and Country Club tied for eighth with Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley at 214.

Next up for the top professionals and amateurs of the Pacific Northwest is the Rosauers Invitational, set for July 15-17 at MeadowWood Golf Club in Spokane.
