University of Washington junior Chris Williams ended up 2-1 in 2011 Walker Cup action over two days for team USA, but it was the Great Britain and Ireland squad that took home the Cup at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club with a 14-12 victory.
Williams, of Moscow, Idaho and playing partner (UCLA sophomore) Patrick Cantlay lost 5 and 3 in the morning’s foursome (alternate-shot) action, but Williams rebounded by defeating Alan Dunbar 1 up in his afternoon singles match.
Team USA entered the final day trailing 7-5 in the competition.
Williams appearance in the Walker Cup marked just the second time that a Husky has been named to represent the United States in Walker Cup play. Brock Mackenzie was a member of the 2003 team and went 3-0-0.
