Beginning in 2021, the USGA will launch a digital profile requirement for all users accessing GHIN.com and the GHIN Mobile App. All golfers will be required to have a unique email address and create a password required for login to use both products. Additionally, all golfers under the age of 13 will be required to designate a guardian to manage their GHIN profile on their behalf. These changes will enhance the security and privacy of golfers by providing a more secure authentication method and comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act for minors.

The GHIN digital profile and guardian management took effect in January.

• What should golfers expect?

Golfer with a valid email address in their GHIN record will receive an email with a link prompting them to create their Digital Profile. In addition to following the link sent by email, golfers will be able to visit GHIN.com and choose the Create Profile link, which will require the golfer to verify two of three items to create their profile: GHIN Number, Last Name, email address. Golfers will not be able to access their information on GHIN.com until they have created their profile.

Mobile App users who have been logged in as of January 11 and do not log out will have until January 18 to create their profile before the app will force them out and require an update for use.

• What if I don’t currently have an email address in my GHIN record?

A unique email address is required to be in the golfer’s GHIN record before they can create their Digital Profile and golfers will not have the option to enter an email during the process of creating their Digital Profile. Golfers will not be able to share an email address with another member. If you need to add an email address to your GHIN record, please contact your club’s Handicap Chairperson.

• Can I still post scores if I do not create a Digital Profile?

Yes, but you will not be able to use GHIN.com or the GHIN Mobile App to do so. Players can still post scores on the WA Golf website or on a score posting kiosk at Golf facilities.
