Northwest golfers fall in USGA championship events

Golfers from the Pacific Northwest made the match-play portion of the 32nd Men’s Mid-Amateur and the 51st Senior Women’s Amateur but that’s as far as they got.

In the USGA Men’s Mid-Amateur held at Conway Farms in Illinois, Scott Hval of Portland lost to Brian Tennyson of California 2&1 in the opening round of match play while Erik Hanson of Kirkland lost to Kevin Waggner of Indiana 2-up, also in the opening round.

In the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur, Leilani Norman of Eugene lost to Alexandra Frazier of Pennsylvania 4&3, Denise Kieffer of University Place, Wash. lost to Claudia Pilot of Minnesota 2-up and Terri Frohnmayer of Salem fell to Sandra Woodruff of California 4&2.
