Changes at Chambers: Course eyes 2015 Open

The United States Open at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. might not be held until 2015, but the course is already busy making changes in preparation for hosting the world’s best golfers. Last month, Chambers Bay got underway with some projects that will give the course a new look.

The renovation of three greens and the softening of some mounds around the golf course to improve spectator areas once the 2015 United States Open rolls around.

USGA head Mike Davis said the greens on the first, seventh and 13th holes will be “slightly modified.” The seventh green will have its false front removed.

The USGA got a good look at how Chambers Bay will play for a big event when it the course served as host for the 2010 United States Amateur.

“It’s a great course for people to watch from vantage points,” said Davis.
