There’s a change in the air at Allenmore Golf Course in Tacoma. The course, owned and operated by the Elk Club, is starting a project which will give the clubhouse and the course a new look. The project, which starts this month, will involve the building of a new clubhouse which will also be the new home of the Elk Lodge, which had been located across the street from the golf course.

The plan is for a new multi-purpose structure to be build, which will house the Tacoma Elks Lodge #174, the pro shop, an athletic facility for Elks members as well as a public restaurant, private members restaurant, banquet facilities and an outdoor pavilion for banquets that will accommodate tournaments.

The site for the new building will have minimal effect on the course. Construction on a new ninth green and tee box has started. The existing ninth green will serve as another practice green. In addition, plans call for all the carts paths around the course to be paved and other changes, including enhancing existing waster hazards and possibly creating a new water feature could take place.

The course will remain open for play during the construction, which is expected to last from nine to 12 months.
