LakeLand Village continues to thrive after 60 years

Cousins Rick and Steve Anderson sat at a table in their Lakeland Village clubhouse and smiled as they reminisced about their golf course and their family. There were plenty of memories and plenty of stories

But through it all LakeLand Village is a place that has survived – and thrived. It started 80 years ago with their grandfather Virgil Anderson bought 800 acres to be used for farming and logging before deciding the land might be good for something else.

And now, years later, LakeLand Village has become a place for families, retirees, golfers, people looking for recreational activities or folks just looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle from city life.

Allyn, Washington is a small town located on the shores of Case Inlet on the Kitsap Peninsula about 30 minutes from Tacoma across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. If you had up the hill in Allyn, you will find LakeLand Village and the place the Anderson family has turned into its slice of heaven.

“There was a time we almost gave the whole thing up,” said Rick Anderson. “It was the 1950’s and my father Bob and my uncle Don had just gotten out of the Korean War and Grandpa Virgil was working the farm alone. Grandpa got a great offer to sell the land for $1 million, a huge amount of money back then. He asked Bob and Don to come home and help or he would accept the offer. They moved back and the land stayed in the family. A few years later the golf community idea was born. The rest is history.” The first nine for the golf course came along in 1972, the second nine came in 1993 and the third nine in 1997. They were called Generation I, Generation II and Generation II. The last two were created by noted Northwest architect Gene “Bunny” Mason. In 2022, Lakeland Village decided it was time to create one 18-hole golf course combing Generations II and II and call it “Ranch Course.” Generation I still plays up to its name.

And just because the Ranch Course is listed as 6,392 yards from the back tees don’t think you can just take driver out and go low. The first three holes get your attention and from there it’s a series of tall trees, bunkers and water. Get the picture? This is a solid test of golf for all players. And the condition of the course, thanks to Steve Anderson who doubles as the superintendent, is first class.

Off the course, LakeLand Village has become a place where people are finding a lifestyle that fits what they are looking for. Rick and Steve Anderson talk about how the housing has taken off and with their new 26-homesite development now available, it’s the perfect time for people to make a move. “We have a little of something for everyone,” said Rick Anderson. “And what makes the new subdivision so enticing is that you can buy the lot and you can use it as an investment and wait to build.

“There is no rush. LakeLand Village is just that kind of place.”

Alissa Young was brought in to handle the golf operations giving the course new golf management and longtime Pacific Northwest PGA professional Tad Davis is now the head professional giving LakeLand a familiar face to golfers who are looking to improve their golf games.
