Gamble Sands to open up its second golf course – Scarecrow
Gamble Sands’ newest course and most anticipated addition to the resort is...
Editor’s note: Quail Valley Golf Course near Portland closed its doors. Here is a heartfelt letter from General Manager Doug Hixson who ran the course since its opening.
Dear Quail Valley Customers and Staff:
The course finally closed truly defines the “End of an Era!” The definition is “a time when a significant period or phase of something comes to an end, often marking a transition to a new beginning”. No more Quail Valley Golf Course is the end of an era.
But I prefer to think about the second half of the definition, “marking a transition to a new beginning”. We should all remember the good “old” days but understand that things do change, and already some of the staff have started their “new beginnings”. Rusty’s retiring, Sean took a salesman job with Range Servant, Chris is now working at Waverley Country Club, Dylan is at The Reserve Golf Club, Monica is weighting her options, and of course, Lance is at Pumpkin Ridge. Mark, Robert, and Paul are still looking, and I am waiting for the dust to settle before I decide on what’s next.
Over the last four months we have heard, from many of you, how much everything that Quail Valley represented will be missed. One thing is for certain, it will be deeply missed, and not just the golf course but the good times, the friendships developed, the great shots or rounds played, and the beautiful surroundings. It will hold a special place in many of our hearts for a long time. Quail will be hard to match but we will all find our “new beginnings” because we love the great game of golf!
Finally, I would like to personally thank everyone, from the customers, the countless staff members, to the owners, for all the support over these past 31 years, it has been a privilege to help build such a wonderful facility and community! I hope to see you on the fairways!
Thank you all.
Doug Hixson – General Manager – Quail Valley Golf Course
