University of Washington men’s golf coach Matt Thurmond has decided to leave the Huskies after 15 years and take the head coaching job at Arizona State University.
Thurmond will replace Tim Mickelson, brother of PGA Tour star Phil Mickelson.
Thurmond became the head coach in 2002 after serving as an assistant for one year under O.D. Vincent. Thurmond coached the Huskies to three Pac-12 titles in 2005, 2009 and 2010. He led Washington to 12 total NCAA Championship appearances and was coach of the year in 2009.
