Pro Golf Discount: A place where employees stay for years

It is a list that is long and impressive. A list that any employer would be proud to show off to any customer who walks in through the front door. At Pro Golf Discount, it is a list that includes over 20 employees that have been with the company for over 25 years. Twenty-five years? At one place?

It’s all true and a testament to what Pro Golf Discount and its five stores in the state of Washington mean to its employees and customers.

When Randy Silver started the company 48 years ago in 1977, little did he know what he had created. He set up a great work environment that attracted golfers with great customer relations and employees who knew a good thing when they signed on. Todd Johnson, the General Manager of the franchise, has been with Pro Golf Discount for 33 years. And he’s not even the longest tenured employee. Johnson ran the Bellevue store for over 20 years before moving up the Pro Golf Discount ladder and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. 

There are 22 total Pro Golf Discount employees who have been with the company for over 25 years. Craig Tabor is another one of those Pro Golf veterans. He started 34 years ago at the Tacoma Store and now manages the Southcenter location and handles the accessory buying for the entire chain. What has kept him in his current gig at Pro Golf? It’s pretty simple, actually.

“It’s a consistent place to work,” said Tabor. “Everyone who is here loves golf at work and away from work. In fact, I play golf with several of our customers. It’s the kind of place you love because you enjoy everything you do.”

There are five Pro Golf Discount locations: Tacoma, Southcenter, Lynnwood, Bellingham and Bellevue. Many of the other employees have been with the company for years also, but they just aren’t in the 25’s just yet.

“You don’t see that kind of longevity anywhere,” said Johnson. “It just shows what kind of company and great people we have and how these guys love what they do for a living.”

They call the group “The 25’s.” And the entire group will take trips just to celebrate how long they have been together and how long they have worked for Pro Golf Discount.
