The Seattle Parks and Recreation Department has announced the city is now actively engaged in seeking a suitable architect/engineer team to design the long-awaited driving range at West Seattle Golf Course for which the budget is $3.4 million.

Statements of Qualifications and Letters of Interest for design services were due in April, and once the architect is hired, the process of designing the new facility will begin. Construction is set to start in summer next year and be completed some time in the Spring of 2012.

A message posted on the City’s web site says the project will integrate a first-class driving range into the West Seattle Golf Course and is consistent with Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Golf Master Plan, dated May 2009. The conceptual design from the Master Plan calls for a double deck driving range with a capacity of approximately 50 stalls. Funding for the project is coming out of the 2010 Multi-purpose Limited-Tax General Obligation Bond and provides for planning, design and construction.
