Fall in Central Oregon

Updated: September 1, 2021

There might not be a better place to visit then Central Oregon for fall golf. With the vast array of colors, some snowcapped peaks and typically great golf conditions, Central Oregon is a hotbed of fall golf for locals and visiting golfers. Here’s a look at a couple of options when traveling in the area:

• Juniper Golf Course: There’s no doubt that Central Oregon continues to be a fantastic option for golfers in the region looking for a fast golf getaway.  When you hear golfers talk about their plans for golf in Central Oregon, the resorts in the area are typically front of mind.  But with so many golf courses to choose from during your golf get away, those who really know golf in Central Oregon often talk about the only resort quality golf course that is municipally owned and only seconds from the airport in Redmond, Ore.

The history of this golf course is extremely unusual.  It’s rare that a golf course completely moves from one location to another, but that’s exactly what Juniper Golf Course did, relocating on a new piece of property a short drive away from its original location.  Once a private 9-hole golf club, the City of Redmond acquired a larger property and then enlisted the design services of John Harbottle, a renowned Northwest architect, and reopened in 2005 with 18 championship holes carved through the beautiful high desert landscape.  The end result is a very popular and challenging layout with consistently superior course conditions and an experience that is unusually nice for a municipal golf course.  When you consider the green fees at this municipal gem are well under $100 a round in season, you’ll be hard pressed to find greater golfing value anywhere in the region.

• Black Butte Ranch: Black Butte Ranch is one of those special places that not only has plenty of family activities, but also offers two golf courses to choose from. And when fall hits, the colors are in full bloom.

Located northwest of Bend, Black Butte Ranch is the perfect place for golfers and their families. There are120 privately owned and uniquely appointed vacation homes that are perfect for friends, family or colleagues to gather, rest, rejuvenate and celebrate. Sitting on 1800 acres, Black Butte comes complete with 18 miles of bicycle trails, swimming pools, tennis courts, horseback riding . . . and, of course, golf.

With two golf courses, Black Butte offers something for everyone. The Glaze Meadow Course is carved out of the trees while the Big Meadow Course is routed through a meadow and provides great views of nearby mountains.

The Big Meadow course has 74 bunkers to challenge your game. For big hitters, Glaze Meadow stretches to over 7,000 yards.

Big Meadow and Glaze Meadow, are considered to be among the top in the Northwest, having received Silver Medal status on Golf Magazine’s US Golf Resort lists in the 1990s.
