Amateur Sekulic sets a record in winning the crown at Northwest Open

It was amateur hour at the Northwest Open Invitational at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash.

Amateur Max Sekulic of Washington State University won the Northwest Open Invitational and set a tournament record along the way with a 54-hole total of 23-under-par 193.

By winning the Northwest Open, Sekulic continued his hot summer of play.  He won the recent Canadian Amateur Championship and finished second at the Rosauers Open Invitational.  Sekulic finished off his tournament championship with a 10-under-par 62 in the final round with six birdies and two eagles. Sekulic had rounds of 66-65-62 along the way.

Sekulic won by four strokes over PGA Professional Derek Berg of the PNW Golf Academy. Rounding out the five in the tournament were Tyler Carlson of the Portland Golf Club at 12 under, Matt Epstein of Everett Golf and Country Club at 10 under the tied for fifth were Austin Hurt of Wing Point, Casey King of Tokatee and Shane Prante of the Home Course. All finished at 9 under par for the championship.
